SEO is short for search engine optimization. This is critical to your success in your internet business. You need to understand the basis for search engine optimization so you can understand its importance. Try searching a popular term such as puppy training.

How can you possibly get ranked on the first page if you are in the business of puppy training? This is where search engine optimization is involved. Some will say that search engine optimization is a science while others say it is a skill and a craft. But in any case, you need to practice website optimization techniques if you want to make money on the internet.

Some call this making a website search engine friendly. One criteria to address in order to make your site search engine friendly is to increase the number of back links to your website. Back links are those that are located on other websites that point back to your site.

The more websites with links to your site, the higher your site will be ranked by the search engines. The reason why is because the search engines consider websites with the most back links to be the most authoritative. If other websites have a link to your site, then there must be a reason.

The reason must be because your site has valuable information relating to your target market. The search engines have one purpose and that is to help people find the best and most relevant information according to their search term.

You can build your back links by contacting other website owners. Request that they put a back link on their site to your website. They might request that you link to their site as well. You should make sure to reciprocate.

Do you know what SEO is? If you have never heard of search engine optimization, then you probably do not have interest in internet marketing. But if you have an online business then you know that your internet income depends on where your website ranks on the search engine results pages.

There are many steps you can take to reach the top of the search pages. You can of course hire a company to optimize your website. But that will cost a lot of money; if you have money to spend though, this could be a good investment. If not, you can try to optimize your pages on your own for a fraction of the cost.

You can download software, for a price, that will help you check your website keyword saturation. You should not flood your website with keywords. The software will alert you if your website has too many keywords on one page.

Many years ago, website owners jammed their websites with keywords because the search engines would reward top spots to websites with the most keywords. But that is no longer the case. If fact, if you simply load your pages with keywords, the search engines will penalize your site and list it at the bottom of the search results. You do not want this to happen.

This is because websites on the top of the rankings were simply full of keywords and made for difficult reading. So the search engines changed their criteria for ranking. The search engines were coming under criticism for allowing keyword saturated websites to be at the top of the rankings.

If you plan to do your own SEO, do not over load your website with keywords. You need to choose them carefully and also place them in strategic places in your website text.
