Nearly everything on the internet has a basic design to it; while a lot are more complicated and others are more simple, each design at its most fundamental level is the very first impression any person will have happening upon a new website. These first impressions are urgent for each and every website. Online marketing firms can help a website advertise its contents. Social media design can be the reason why new social media sites will either take off or be taken down.

The first aspect of social media design that needs to be taken into account is first time visitors. The first screen a new person sees needs to load in a jiffy, but not be underwhelmed at the absence of features on the page. The person also can’t be overwhelmed with a page that takes forever to load and a truckload different aspects of the website trying to get their attention. The key to success as a social media site is the balance of design.

Social media design has to be clear, organized, and obvious to navigate, no matter what the site is for. Whether your social media site is like Tumblr, or like Twitter, it needs to have a few key aspects.

What is this social media site for? The design should very clearly describe the purpose of the social media site.

How do you sign up for the social media site? How to join the website should be very obvious. People will lose interest fast in joining any social media site if they cannot figure out how to do that simple task. Not only that, but how can they trust that the design of the rest of the website will be any easier to navigate?

If you are already a member of the social media site, how do you log back in? Another way a person can quickly lose interest in the site they just became a part of is if they can’t easily figure out how to log back in.

Overall social media design ultimately needs a social equilibrium; everything needs to be purposefully organized. This overall design used with a social media site will hook the new viewer at first site and that’s exactly what you need to be successful. So remember social media design and sweet simplicity go hand in hand.

Site Promotion

According to marketing textbooks, there are 4 “P’s”: Product, Price, Place and Promotion. How do these relate to promoting your website? In terms of improving a website’s online visibility, Place can be a key factor. Localization of your website can enhance its appeal to the audience you are targeting.

This is now an important part of search engine optimization as Google has recently added lots of features that can be utilized to more effectively create a local presence and accessibility, especially from mobile devices such as tablets and smart phones. An SEO and Internet marketing company is best suited to properly advise on methods that can be used to improve the local visibility of your website and ensure that your company website is listed in both regular and local search result lists.

If your website has international target markets, than one of the most obvious things to do is to translate the web pages into the other appropriate languages. Once you have done this, you can launch a search engine marketing campaign in the countries where that language is spoken. You could also get a local domain, local IP address and website hosting service provider which will also help you to achieve a higher ranking for your site in any given country. An SEO company can localize your URL and translate it into the appropriate language.

You can also research keyword strategies based on local, organic and online search engine marketing. Apart from keyword services, an SEO company can help you to find the most popular search keywords for any country, as keywords may be chosen and utilized differently in areas other than your regular country of origin.

Adding translated keywords in meta data, title tags and URL extensions as a part of a website coding campaign is also a good idea and shouldn’t affect the appearance of your web page and its content.

If you are selling home decoration items for example, your web page will have the information in English but a German search for “Dekoartikeln” will also lead browsers in Germany to your website if that particular keyword is included in your meta tags.

Listing your website on local directories and online yellow pages will also help improve its visibility, as will getting it listed in traditional yellow pages directories.

Above all, you need to have a clear goal in mind when planning a localization strategy for your website. Being able to determine where the majority of your customer base resides, and localizing your site for those specific areas, will provide the optimal benefits.

Keyword Search Website Ranking

One question many companies are asking: How do I get my website a top ranking for a specific keyword search? There are many things that go into this. One of the key contributors to your success on this front is getting many back-links to your internet site for the keywords you’re targeting. If you’re only starting out with a new web site, you’ll need to do some research before you start in order to know how to construct your website.

The very first thing to do is investigate the keywords themselves. This can be done for free at the Google AdWords Keyword Research tool. Simply type in the primary aim of your business and internet site and see what comes up. This free tool will explicitly show you words that people are typing in when looking whatever product you are providing. You have to choose one of those keywords to be utilized in the name of your internet site. And more research ought to be done on the authenticity of that keyword. Once you have spotted a good keyword for your internet site, one that’s both topical, and offers enough traffic, register the name of your internet site with GoDaddy, NameCheap, or any of the other domain selling sites.

If you’ve chosen a particularly general keyword, you’ll have to add a word or two so as to get the web site name. As an example, if your website is about Bird Feeders, the domain BirdFeeders.com will most probably not be available, so you’re going to need to pick a name like BuyBirdFeeders.com, or BestBirdFeeders.com, and so on. Once you have got your keywords and name worked out, begin developing the content of your website with those the keywords that you have selected and that consumers are looking for.

After you have some content up, then you could submit your internet site to the search site directories to start you off with some back-links which should raise your keyword search website ranking. You can submit your internet site to the leading search engines, the minor search sites, and niche-related search websites that apply to your website. Then you can post comments, which include a connection back to your site, on blogs and forums in your industry.

It could also help to create articles that include your keywords, link them back to your website, and to post them on sites like Hubpages.com, Squidoo.com, and EzineArticles.com. These are only a few of the ways you can begin to get a high keyword search website ranking.

Search Engine Marketing

Search engine marketing often gets confused with search engine optimization, but there’s a distinct difference between the two, money. When engaging in search engine optimization there is usually no money being paid whereas search engine marketing requires you to pay in order to gain access to the services you desire. $13.5 billion was spent on search engine marketing in 2008 and the amount is increasing every year. The three largest players in search engine marketing are Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, and Microsoft adCenter.

Google AdWords is Google’s main source of income, in 2010 Google brought in $28 billion in advertising revenue. Google AdWords offers three main ways for companies to advertising, pay-per-click, cost-per-thousand advertising, and site-targeted advertising for banner or rich media ads. When using the pay-per-click system marketers choose how much they are willing to “bid” for a certain keyword, this means they set a maximum for what they are willing to pay-per-click. If there bid is high enough they will show up on Google as a sponsored link and hopefully be seen by the user. Marketers also have access to the “Google Display Network” which are sites that aren’t search engines.

Google will place banner or rich media ads on these sites for you based on keywords you have entered and what Google has determined the subject of the website to be. Yahoo! Search Marketing and Microsoft adCenter both work very similarly to Google AdWords, but they don’t offer users the ability to enter a “display network” like Google does.

Search engine marketing has been the subject of some controversy in the past. Users would sometimes not be able to distinguish what were organic search results and what were paid placement search results. Most search engines now make it clear which results are organic and which are sponsored, but users still have to be cautious as changes are always being made.

A major controversy associated with search engine marketing is whether companies should be able to bid on the brand names or product names owned by their competition. Should Playstation be able to bid on the search term Xbox? This is an ongoing debate and even though Google has repeatedly changed its policy companies continue to complain.

Search engine marketing is an industry that’s growing larger and becoming more useful each year. Google, Yahoo!, and Microsoft provide the three most useful tools for getting involved in SEM, but as with everything, you need to be careful with how you use it and make sure your SEM practices are ethical.

Social Media Platform Changes

Since its creation, social media has undergone some profound shifts. Perhaps the largest of these shifts was from the dominance of MySpace to the dominance of Facebook. MySpace was the first social media platform to really take off; it was created by some of the users of the older platform Friendster. It took just a few years for MySpace to hit its 100 millionth user, but since that peak the number of users has crashed down to only 50 million. The reason for this decline of MySpace was the rise of Facebook. Facebook started as a social network for Harvard only, but was rolled out to other universities, has now expanded to 750 million active users and is the preferred platform globally. While Facebook may currently be the dominant player, the industry continues to shift with the entrance of Google+.

In addition to Facebook, Twitter and Google+, there are still a number of less extensive platforms, each of which contributes in some way to the ever-modifying social media environment. One of these platforms, Formspring seemed to be everywhere (especially in posts on Facebook) for about two weeks, and then seemingly disappeared. In reality it may have just lost its buzz and become more self-contained (after all, the site still claimed to be approaching 22 million users on its blog in 2011). Though brief, Formspring’s prominence was involved in shifting some social media platforms to include anonymous feedback sections for users. In contrast to the short exposure of Formspring, LiveJournal predates MySpace and Facebook but still has a thriving community. This popular blogging/ online diary service was one of the first instances in which people actively invested in having a presence on the Internet and should be considered critical in the development of social media.

In addition to those evolutions, recently there has been a general shift in the Internet to increasingly social platforms. For instance, several music applications (Play My Song, Rdio, Spotify, and Turntable.fm) are integrating socialability into the core functioning of their products. Of those applications, Turntable.fm may be the most interesting. The basic premise is that one user creates a room and other users enter the room so that they can DJ. It works because it arrives at a middle ground where songs are more acceptable to everyone and seems to be well suited for smaller relaxed offices.

In addition to the shift to more socialability across the Internet, the major social media platforms seem to be filling in more niche positions than previously. Facebook, MySpace, and Friendster all filled generally the same role. Facebook appears to have won that competition and with the rise of Facebook, other companies have repositioned to fill different roles. For instance, Twitter has risen to prominence as a micro-blogging platform. It is not so much a means of connecting with friends and creating an online life as a method of spreading blips of information.

Another site has also moved into the role of Facebook’s more mature brother – LinkedIn. LinkedIn has developed into the preeminent professional social media platform. The site functions both as a place to connect with old friends and as a place to search for employment. If LinkedIn is Facebook’s older brother, then hi5 might be its younger brother.

hi5 is just one of a large number of social media sites hanging under the radar. But in the plethora of social media sites there are a number you shouldn’t forget. For instance, Flickr and Vimeo, a photo and video sharing site respectively are both pushing social medias boundaries. Now there’s even a social media site to help you make purchasing decisions, called Crowdstorm. In addition to the constant creation of new sites, there’s big news for some of the emerging giants too. Groupon and Foursquare recently announced that they were teaming up. In short, social media may be at its most varied point in history. Different platforms are each offering unique competitive advantages, and there’s no reason to assume it’s going to become any more standardized in the future.

Using Social Bookmark Sites for SEO

Importance of Incoming Links

Most of us trying to optimize our sites for search engine traffic know one of the single most important ways to get our sites listed higher on search engines is through obtaining incoming links. For Google, the quality of the website providing the incoming link is also important. It’s very important to get incoming links from high page rank (PR) web pages. Most search engine optimization ( SEO )articles mention this importance. However, many search engine optimization articles do not go into specifics about how to obtain these links. Avoid Excessive Link Exchanges

A simple way is to have a link exchange whereby websites swap text links from their index or other pages in an attempt to build links. This system used to work very well in the past until Google decided that it didn’t like websites exchanging links simply to perform better in Google’s search algorithm. Google’s position now is that link exchanges are alright as long as they are not excessive. It is unclear how Google defines ‘excessive’.

An alternative approach to building incoming links apart from simple link exchange is to have an A-B-C link exchange. In this scenario site A links to site B. Site C links to site A in exchange for the link to site B. It is widely held that Google’s algorithm is aware of this situation and accounts for it. Obtaining One-Way Incoming Links

The vastly superior way is to have one-way incoming links. One-way links are links which point to your site without you having to link back to their site or set of sites. This is clearly the superior method for building incoming links. However, this method may take a long period of time as external websites find your web pages useful and link in to them. No matter the quality of your content it takes time to build natural links in. Such natural links may come from web directories or sites related to your topic which find your website useful and link to your site without being asked.

This SEO article is written specifically to address the problem of building one-way links to your website. By taking some short-cuts it’s easy to get high Page Rank websites to provide one-way links to your website. One of the simplest and easiest ways to gain incoming links is by taking advantage of social bookmark sites. These social bookmark sites include high page rank social bookmark sites such as ma.gnolia.com, simpy.com, furl.net, and del.icio.us.

It’s free to signup and start using these various bookmark sites. Most of them will require that you install their icon into your web browser toolbar. Once installed, simply click the bookmark icon when you’re on any web page which you’d like to have bookmarked. Ideally you may wish to bookmark all the web pages of your site. You can use these bookmark sites to create a URL containing all your own website links.

Once you have the URLs containing your websites then submit these URLs to Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines of your choosing. Place links to these URLs on your own websites or on other sites such as within blog comments.

Once these newly created bookmark webpage URLs get indexed and search engines crawl them then your websites will benefit from having quality one-way links. Importance of Anchor Text

Always remember that the anchor text used to link to your site is extremely important as search engines such as Google attribute the anchor text to your website. The anchor text is simply the hot-linked words that refer to your website. If for example you operate a car dealership then for anchor text you may choose something like “cars for sale” or “buy cars”. It’s good to use adjectives sometimes when choosing anchor text. Continuing with the example above you may choose anchor text such as “autos for sale” or “buy automobiles”. It’s a good idea to vary the anchor text and not use the same anchor text for all incoming links. Keep this in mind when naming your websites as you manage your bookmarks.
