You might be using Twitter as a way to keep your customers and clients aware of what is is going on with your business. That is fantastic! But are your Tweets really getting you the results you want? While Twitter can be a magnificent marketing tool, it is often used incorrectly by people who make mistakes that aren’t so obvious to them. In order to get the most out of your Twitter campaign it is necessary for you to keep following the right marketing practices and make sure you don’t commit simple blunders, that we will be discussing in this article.

If you are entering the world of Twitter for the purposed of promoting your business, make sure you keep your business and personal life separate- avoiding tweets like “hanging out with friends”. No, that is not professional and is a mistake many marketers do on Twitter. Most people don’t have any interest in your private life. If you have something to say that isn’t really helping your followers or isn’t going to give them any benefit, then you better not say it. Yes friends, sometimes silence is golden, even for marketers. Do not risk harming your Internet reputation by creating a more human and less professional face for your Twitter account. You can help your followers by giving direct tips and techniques that they can use, but by giving them information about your life that no one cares about is a strict no no. You want to maintain a strong, professional persona that your customers will be inclined to turn to when they need help.

But it would be a mistake and seem arrogant to make your posts only about you. Your audience will demand an incentive to place their confidence in you. It is human nature to want to know what benefits they will enjoy. Don’t make the mistake of being preoccupied with yourself and your product, be sure to show the customers how they can benefit from what you are offering. Features can be listed by anyone, you want be sure that you are clearly explaining the benefits. Don’t get too serious; that can be a deadly mistake. Too serious a tone will make you boring. Remember that the reason people are using Twitter is for socialization and enjoyment. If you get too serious, there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to lose the interest of your followers.

On the other hand some people try to market on Twitter with a little too much mystery. IF no one can figure out who you are you’re going to be ignored. You have to include a bio that will capture their attention and include a photo of yourself. The first impression is very important, and you could lose a large number of customers if you don’t take the time to do this well. But that doesn’t mean you take yourself too seriously. Taking your product or your business too sternly can be a death knell to your business and any chance of having a successful marketing movement. Twitter is a fun internet destination, somewhere where people come together and interact on a social level. Everyone has enough pressure and seriousness in their lives, you don’t want to pile on more. Write your tweets with some spice and add a little humor if it is appropriate. That’s how you really make them interested in what you’re offering. Give your followers something to think about or something to chuckle over.

Another mistake that marketers make is having a corporate like image on their Twitter account. When your prospects see a corporate logo, they feel that you are nothing but your business, and won’t even take a look at what you have to offer. People will respond and react to another human, not a lifeless company logo. To represent your business to the fullest extent, you must put some personality into your Twitter campaign. This takes a little effort but it is worth in the end, there is nothing like knowing that the person on the other end is real. But many people confuse this for being a snob. If you make the mistake of appearing too aloof on Twitter your reputation is toast. Twitter, just like any other site is about social networking, and it is a great platform to launch a new ad campaign and stay in touch with your clientele. Interact with other Twitterers here, connect with them and talk without having a promotional tone. Show real compassion and real concern whenever they have a problem or issue and try to help to resolve those issues when possible. As crazy as it may sound, the best way to market on Twitter is to make it look like the other way round.

Just follow our advice above, and you should be able to utilize Twitter effectively. Recently I created a The Best Spinner, PPC Coach twitter accounts and I was able to build up a ton of followers for it.
